About Engelhard Medical Center

The Engelhard Medical Center is a non-profit, community owned, incorporated organization. We were established and have been operating many years in mainland Hyde County and joined the Ocracoke Health Center as a FQHC in 2014. Our mission statement: to operate and maintain a primary care program in Engelhard for all citizens, residents and visitors desiring those services, especially for those who have limited access to adequate medical services. The Engelhard Medical Center provides care to all persons in need, regardless of their ability to pay for services.

At Engelhard Medical Center, care starts with listening. We take time to get to know our patients – their lives, their needs, and their goals – and we build our care around that. This approach is about something bigger. As the largest primary care network in the country, CHCs are united by a shared commitment to care that is grounded in relationships. That is why the care people receive here feels familiar and personal. It is care that is shaped by trust, built on connection, and delivered by a national movement rooted in every community we serve.
